Exceptional sleep is the natural outcome of a well-regulated nervous system

The problem is that most of us have never been taught the skills that support nervous system regulation.

My mission with this newsletter is to address that: to guide you toward learning the skills and practices that support a well-regulated nervous system, and in turn, exceptional sleep.

Welcome to Leveling Up Sleep

I'm Oliver. My fascination with the science of learning, human performance, and nervous system adaptation began over four decades ago. As a young ambitious violinist, preparing for competitions, I became intrigued by how I could perform brilliantly one day and struggle the next. That question led me on a decades-long journey of studying learning, movement, performance, and the remarkable adaptability of the nervous system.

Along the way, I realized two important things.

First, I came to appreciate how essential exceptional sleep is for high performance.

Second, I discovered that the same methods and practices I was using to refine my violin performance could be adapted to improve the quality of my sleep. Among them were breathing and visualization exercises, movement awareness, body balancing, and relaxation practices. Gradually, the common thread became clear: whether I was performing on stage or trying to sleep, both depended on the ability to build a well-regulated nervous system. In other words:

A well-regulated nervous system is the foundation for achieving excellence in whatever we aspire to do

The real breakthrough came during my three-year professional training in somatic education, while practicing a slow hand movement paired with mindful breathing. That experience eventually led me to develop a sleep method built on somatic exercises and practices that support nervous system regulation and promote exceptional sleep
